A colloquium was held Wednesday in Beijing to commemorate the 110th birthday of the late Guo Moruo, a prestigious figure in the contemporary Chinese history who dedicated his whole life to world peace.

During his life, Guo worked unremittingly and tirelessly and contributed tremendously in promoting the friendship between China and other countries around the world, according to Chen Haosu, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), the event's organizer.

Guo did a great deal to increase China's non-governmental friendly exchanges with overseas as he was an important leader in the former China-Soviet Union Friendship Association, the China-Japan Friendship Association and a number of other amity groups.

Participants in the symposium recalled Guo's past peace efforts and international exchange activities, calling him a great emissary of peace.
