China Encourages Local Govts to Enhance Ties with Australian State

Visiting top Chinese lawmaker Li Peng told Rober Carr, premier of the New South Wales State of Australia, Thursday in Sydney that China encourages local governments to strengthen ties with this southeastern state of Australia.

China Encourages Local Govts to Enhance Ties with Australian State
Visiting top Chinese lawmaker Li Peng told Rober Carr, premier of the New South Wales State of Australia, Thursday in Sydney that China encourages local governments to strengthen ties with this southeastern state of Australia.

Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said that Sydney, capital of the Australian state and the country's largest city, has been knotted with China's Guangdong Province as sister jurisdictions, and he expects more connections of this kind will be established with other Chinese provinces and cities.

Li noted that there are a large number of Chinese descendants and Chinese nationals living in the New South Wales State, especially in Sydney, who have made contributions to the local economic progress and friendly relations between the two countries.

Carr agreed with Li on the important roles of Australian citizens and residents from the Chinese ethnic group. He also noted that Chinese Australians, as well as other people, are elated to see that Beijing has succeeded in bidding for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Australian people have recognized that the future development of the continent nation is closely related to its economic cooperation with China, and the business community have been focusing more than ever on the vast country of China with huge market potentials, according to the premier.

Both Li and Carr spoke highly of the development of bilateral ties between the two nations in the past 30 years and said they believe the two are embracing for an even brighter future in economic cooperation with shared interests and aspiration for common prosperity.
