Chinese Defense Minister Meets with Indonesian President

Visiting Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister General Chi Haotian called on Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri at the State Palace Thursday afternoon in Jakarta.

Visiting Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister General Chi Haotian called on Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri at the State Palace Thursday afternoon in Jakarta.

"General (Chi) Haotian was conveying a message from the Chinese government to continuously enhance friendship," Indonesian defense minister Matori Abdul Djalil told reporters after the meeting.

Matori said that President Megawati was glad at Chi's visit and also at the new stage of development the bilateral relations entered into.

During the meeting the two sides also discussed about security cooperation.

Earlier Thursday, Chi Haotian, who is also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of China, had a meeting with Indonesian Armed Forces Commander General Endiartono Sutarto at the Armed Forces headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta.
