Chinese Vice-Premier Meets Japanese Guests

Chinese Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao said Friday that maintaining good and stable relations between China and Japan is not only the common need of the two countries but also the need for peace and prosperity in Asia-Pacific and the world.

Chinese Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao said Friday that maintaining good and stable relations between China and Japan is not only the common need of the two countries but also the need for peace and prosperity in Asia-Pacific and the world.

At a meeting with Taku Yamazaki, secretary-general of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party, Wen said China and Japan have made great progress in developing bilateral ties since normalization of relations 30 years ago.

This has benefited the two countries and their peoples and contributed to regional peace, stability and prosperity, he said.

Wen said the two nations should further enhance mutual understanding and trust, expand cooperation and broaden their common interests to promote ties.

Yamazaki pledged his party's willingness to promote exchanges with the Communist Party of China and to take the 30th anniversaryof the normalization of ties as an opportunity to boost friendshipand cooperation.

He highly commended China's achievements since adopting the reform and opening-up policy, saying he believed that China's economic development would be conducive to the stability and development of the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large.
