Zeng said the people-to-people activities jointly held to mark the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japanese ties this year were a milestone in their history of friendly exchanges, showing the deep and solid grassroots friendship.

He said friendship was the orientation of Sino-Japanese relations and in conformity with the basic aspirations and long-term interests of both peoples. Sino-Japanese friendship was also significant for peace and development in Asia and the world.

When looking at the past, the two countries should see the general trend of friendship and cooperation, and never forget the lessons of history, Zeng said.
