The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) criticized on Saturday the UN Security Council for deciding to hold a special session on Monday to discuss the tough Israeli army raid on Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Ramallah headquarters.

PNA Cabinet Minister Saeb Erekat told Xinhua that "we are hoping that the UN Security Council session should be urgent and quick, as the life of President Arafat is in danger."

The Arab states submitted a request on Friday to convene the UN Security Council to discuss the Israeli army's surrounding of Arafat's headquarters in the West Bank town of Ramallah.

The request was initiated by Palestinian representative in the United Nations Nasser Al Qidwa and was presented by Syria, currently a member of the UN Security Council.

In response, the UN Security Council held a limited meeting on the issue on Friday and said it would hold an open session on Monday.

Al Qidwa proposed that Israel withdraw its forces from Ramallah, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to the positions prior to the outbreak of the Palestinian Intifada (uprising) in late September 2000.

The flaming fire in the region has made about 3.5 million Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza strip suffer from the continued Israeli unfair war against them, said Erekat.

He also called upon the international community to hold an urgent special session as immediate as possible to decide on sending international forces to protect the Palestinian people.

Palestinian officials expressed concerns that Israel would totally destroy all the buildings in the Arafat's headquarters before the UN Security Council holds its session on Monday.

Israel's army tanks and bulldozers raided the Arafat's headquarters on Thursday and destroyed almost all the buildings and caravans that surrounded Arafat's office building inside the compound.

After a suicide bombing attack on Thursday in Tel Aviv, in whichsix people were killed and 60 others wounded, the Israeli government decided to isolate Arafat and press for handing over 20 Palestinians who Israel said are on its wanted list.
