Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has called for Arab actions to end the ongoing
Israel
i military operations in the Palestinian lands.
Arafat made the appeal during an overnight phone talk with Arab League chief Amr Moussa, who is now visiting the
United States
, Arab League spokesman Hisham Yousef told reporters in Cairo,
Egypt
.
Arafat appealed to the Arab states to use all their powers of diplomacy to halt the ferocious Israeli attacks on his headquarters in the West Bank town of Ramallah, Yousef said.
During the phone conversation, Moussa was briefed on the worsening situation in the Palestinian lands due to the Israeli invasion, shelling and arrests, he said.
Moussa was also considering seeking an emergency meeting of the Jerusalem Committee of the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference, he added.
The Israeli army launched offensives against Arafat's compound and made an incursion into the Gaza Strip on Thursday, in retaliation for a suicide bombing attack in the day in the Israeli coastal city of Tel Aviv, which killed eight people and injured some 60 others.
