Nick Price of Zimbabwe will grace the fairways of the 250,000 US dollars Macao Golf Open this year when the tournament tees-off from October 17-20, the Macao Sport Development Board announced Saturday in Macao.

Three-time Major winner Price has been in great form this year and will bid for honors in the popular Davidoff Tour event, which will be played at its regular home, the Macao Golf and Country Club.

The 45-year-old Price, known throughout his career as one of the best ball strikers in the game, won the MasterCard Colonial tournament on the US PGA Tour this year taking his tally of titlesin America to 17.

The Macao Golf Open, inaugurated in 1998, has a tradition of attracting some of the finest players in the game. Last year, American John Daly and Englishman Lee Westwood competed.

Price won two of his Majors in 1994, when he was victorious in the British Open and the US PGA Championship. He also won the latter event in 1992.

"I have played golf in Asia before, especially in Japan, and I am really looking forward to a return, particularly to a place I have not been before, Macao," said Price.

"I know a lot of good players have made the trip to Macao over the past few years and I have heard some great reports. My game has been in good shape this year so it would mean a lot to me to take the Macao Open title at my first attempt," said the Florida-based Price.

"Each year we try and ensure that the very best players in the game have the opportunity to play in Macao and there is no doubt that Nick Price represents one of the elite players in golf," said the President of the Macao Sport Development Board, Manuel Silverio.

"He is known as being a true gentleman as well as an outstanding player. We look forward to welcoming him to Macao," hesaid.

China's Zhang Lian Wei won the Macao Open in 2001 and is expected to return to defend his title this year along with all the top players from the Davidoff Tour.

The Macao Golf Open forms the 15th leg of this year's Davidoff Tour, which for the first time boasts total price money of more than 10 million US dollars.
