China's top legislator Li Peng said here Tuesday that the Western Australian State has an important role in Sino-Australian relations and he expects the cooperative projects between the two sides will succeed.

Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remarks when meeting visiting premier Geoff Gallop of the Western Australian State.

He said that his visit to Australia last week was a success thanks to the joint efforts of both countries.

He said the cooperation between China and Australia on major natural resources-related projects on iron ore and liquified natural gas is concentrated in the Western Australian State, highlighting its importance in economic ties between the two nations.

Gallop said that Li's visit to Australia during the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries has been a great impetus to bilateral relations.

The Australian government, especially the government of the Western Australian State, and related companies will join their efforts and do their best to ensure the cooperative projects with China are successful, Gallop said.
