Chinese Defense Minister to Visit Philippines

Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister General Chi Haotian is expected to arrive here on Wednesday for a four-day goodwill visit aimed at enhancing defense relations between the two countries.

Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister General Chi Haotian is expected to arrive here on Wednesday for a four-day goodwill visit aimed at enhancing defense relations between the two countries.

General Chi will meet his Philippine counterpart Angelo Reyes on defense and security issues, officials of the Chinese Embassy in Manila said on Tuesday.

During his stay, Chi, who first visited the country in 1997, isalso expected to pay a courtesy call on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Chi is China's second highest ranking official to visit the country in the month. Earlier, China's top legislator Li Peng paida three-day official good-will visit here.

Chi will fly in from Indonesia, the second leg of his three-nation tour which has already taken him to Canada.
