The first Indonesia-China Energy Forum was held Wednesday in Bali of Indonesia to follow up the agreement that was signed on March 24, 2002, in Beijing between the Chinese and Indonesian governments.

The forum aimed to strengthen and broaden cooperation in oil and gas industries and also to provide a strong foundation for cooperation in petroleum exploration.

The Chinese delegation is led by Chairman of the State Development Planning Commission Zeng Peiyan and Indonesian delegation by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro,

Both sides acknowledged Indonesia's rich oil and gas reserves and China's vast and prospective market potential.

During the forum, representatives from both countries agreed to enhance reciprocal cooperation in oil, natural gas, electricity and coal industries between their respective companies.

The cooperation included the signing of a framework agreement on Fujian LNG supply between the CNOOC of China and Pertamina/BP of Indonesia, one of the world's largest LNG exporters.

Indonesian services companies would be offered opportunities to participate in the development of Fujian LNG and industry infrastructure to reciprocate the opportunities extended to China services companies to expand their business in Indonesia on a competitive basis.

In the oil industry, PetroChina and Pertamina have signed an MOU concerning collaboration in research and development activities in enhanced oil recovery, exploration and coal bed methane.

Considering the increasing demand of electricity in Indonesia and the capacity and experience of the electricity industry in China, both sides agreed to establish principles of long term cooperation in developing Indonesia's power industry.

Chinese companies are expected to strengthen cooperation with their Indonesian counterparts, including China Chemical Construction Company, Cheng Da Chemical Construction Company, China Machine-Building International Corp and China National Machinery and Equipment Import.

Indonesia is also pleased to learn that China will participate in acquiring and exploring mineral resources in Indonesia. With the participation of Chong Kuang Group in the forum, Indonesia expected the company to share its expertise in underground coal mining at Ombilin on the island of Sumatra.

Zeng and Yusgiantoro agreed to hold the next Indonesia-China energy forum in Beijing, but its date and location will be determined later.
