Colombian Army Rescues 10 Hostages
Colombian military forces Wednesday rescued 10 civilians held hostage by guerrillas of the National Liberation Army (ELN) in the northwest.

A spokesmen from the 4th Army Brigade said the civilians were kidnapped by the members of the ELN, Colombia's second largest rebel group, on the road linking the localities of Granada and Cocorna, and they were rescued by the Colombian troops when being taken to the mountains.
The rapid reaction took place at the locality of El Ramal, 580 kilometers northwest of Bogota, and it forced guerrillas to abandon the captives.
According to statistics provided by humanitarian organizations,2,020 people have been kidnapped in 2002 and 767 are still in rebel hands.
Among all the people held, 548 people were taken by the ELN, which is notorious for mass kidnappings and destruction of oil lines, and 622 by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the country's largest guerrilla group.
