As a friendly country, China is following closely the latest developments in the domestic situation in Cote d'Ivoire, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said at a news conference Thursday.

In response to a question, Zhang said that any attempt to undermine the hard-won peace and stability in Cote d'Ivoire does not conforms to interest of its people.

The Chinese government supports the positive efforts President Laurent Gbagbo has made to safeguard national stability and promote national reconciliation since he assumed office, she noted.

Meanwhile, she expressed her belief that the government and people of the west African nation are fully capable of resuming political stability as soon as possible under the leadership of President Laurent Ghagbo, thereby creating a good environment for its economic and social development.
