HK Imports US$130 Mln Worth of Italian Jewelry in 1st Half of 2002

Hong Kong imported from Italy precious jewelry at a remarkable value of 130 million US dollars in the first half of 2002, the Italian Trade Commission said Thursday.

Hong Kong imported from Italy precious jewelry at a remarkable value of 130 million US dollars in the first half of 2002, the Italian Trade Commission said Thursday.

It marks an encouraging increment of 20 percent compared with the same period last year, the commission said at an Italian jewelry show here.

Seventy-three Italian jewelers and 14 Italian jewelry technology and machinery producers are participating at the ongoing Hogn Kong Jewelry and Watch Fair which is open between Sept. 25 to 29.

The Italian jewelry machinery sector is also expected to enter into the Chinese mainland market since China's accession into the World Trade Organization, with Hong Kong as a gateway to the mainland, the commission said.
