DPRK will be invited to the annual conference of the International Monetary Fund next year, the South Korean Ministry of Finance and Economy said Sunday.

Horst Koehler, managing director of the fund, told S. Korean Finance Minister Jeon Yun-churl on Saturday that he will invite DPRK as a special guest at the conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

If Pyeongyang wants to be a member of the International Monetary Fund, Mr. Koehler said, it will be provided with technical support to bring its institutions up to international standards, the ministry said.

Considering the new movement of DPRK toward opening its economy, Pyeongyang is likely to accept the invitation, an official said.
