Hang Seng Bank Approved to Offer E-banking Services in Mainland

Hang Seng Bank, Hong Kong's second largest listed bank, obtained approval from the People's Bank of China for its mainland branches to offer personal e-banking services to local customers and expatriates, the bank said in a statement Monday.

Hang Seng Bank, Hong Kong's second largest listed bank, obtained approval from the People's Bank of China for its mainland branches to offer personal e-banking services to local customers and expatriates, the bank said in a statement Monday.

The bank said it was a major step forward in its plan to provide convenient and quality banking services to customers in the mainland via the internet.

Approved online services include account inquiries transfers, time deposits and rate inquiries, among others, it said.

Hang Seng now operates 158 branches and automated banking centers in Hong Kong; branches in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Fuzhou; and representative offices in Beijing, Xiamen and Taipei.
