The development of a long-term strategic partnership with China is one of Russia's key foreign policy priorities, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said on Tuesday in Moscow.

"The policy fully meets the national interests of our country and is not subject to momentary change," Yakovenko said in an interview, published on the ministry's web site on the 53rd anniversary of founding of the People's Republic of China.

The Russian-Chinese treaty on good-neighborly relations, friendship and cooperation signed one year ago is seen as "a solid guarantor of the stability of our relations in the 21st century," he said.

Yakovenko noted that the worldwide compatability of the two countries' national interests has made it possible for Russia to effectively coordinate foreign-policy steps with China in such issues as strategic stability, the fight against terrorism as well as settlement of regional problems.

Trade between Russia and China will this year exceed 11 billion US dollars, Yakovenko predicted, adding that the figure has grown dynamically over the past three years.

"These positive changes indicate that Russian-Chinese trade and economic ties are entering a new stage of dynamic expansion and deepening," Yakovenko said.
