China and South Korea, the two lions on the Busan Asiad pistes, will fight for the men's foil team gold Wednesday evening, as China beat Chinese Hong Kong 45-24 and South Korea edged over Japan 45-40 in the afternoon's semifinals.

Eventually, Japan took the bronze by beating Chinese Hong Kong 45-23 here in Busan.

Four years ago, China won the team gold at the Bangkok Asiad while South Korea finished third.

The Chinese team is still led by Wang Haibin, the individual gold medalist at both the Busan and the Bangkok Asiads, while the South Korean squad is headed by veteran Kim Young-ho, who was beaten by Wang 15-7 in the final in Bangkok and 15-9 in the semifinal in Busan.

"Kim Young-ho, who took the individual gold in the Sydney Olympic Games, did not play his best in the matches before this evening's final," Cai Jiadong, the Chinese team manager told Xinhua in the afternoon.

"Kim is 32 years old, he has not been in his best form since the beginning of the fencing competition of the Busan Asiad."

"But it doesn't mean China will definitely clinch the title. Many factors might affect the final result. It is very hard to predict it now. But all our fencers have vowed to play like fighters in the final," Cai said.

Six teams from South Korea, China, Japan, China's Hong Kong, Kuwait and the Philippines have been registered to compete in the men's foil team competition in Busan.

Every team must field three fencers for the nine 5-point sets, with each lasting for four minutes in maximum, and every fencer playing all his three opponents. The team collecting 45 points will be the winner.
