China Shooters Beat Fields and World Records

Chinese marksmen and women shattered two world records en route to sweeping seven out of eight gold medals on the first day of Asian Games shooting competition on Wednesday.

Chinese marksmen and women shattered two world records en route to sweeping seven out of eight gold medals on the first day of Asian Games shooting competition on Wednesday.

Zhao Yinghui, 21, led Chinese teammates Gao Jing and Du Li to anew world record and a team title in the women's 10m air pistol before she claimed the individual crown.

The Chinese trio garnered the gold-winning total of 1,194 points to better the world team record by four points. India picked the silver with 1,187 points and South Korea took bronze with 1,183.

Zhao scored 501.4 points for the individual gold, beating Gao Jing in second place with 501 and South Korean Park Un-kyong 500.6in third.

"I was shocked by my own results," said Zhao. "I didn't expect gold here because host shooters are very strong."

In the men's 10m air rifle event, the Chinese team led by Li Jie chalked up a new world record of 1,788 points to win the team title. The previous mark of 1,785 was set by Russia in the world championships in July.

Li Jie later won the individual gold with 700.8 points.

Five-time Olympian and six-time Asiad veteran Wang Yifu added amen's free pistol crown to his 1992 Olympic title, scoring 571 points in the qualification, a new Asiad record, and 92.5 points in the final.

Wang also led the Chinese to total 1,690 points for the team title.

Chinese Gao E won the women's trap title with 84 hits. Rak Yong-hui and Ri Hye-gyong, both from DPR Korea, finished second and third respectively.

DPR Korea snatched the women's team trap crown with 188 hits, beating China with 184 into second place and Japan with 180 in third.
