Chinese shooting team head coach Xu Haifeng focus more on the quality of the gold medal than the quantity of gold medal that his sharpshooters won at the Asian Games.

Chinese sharpshooters collected seven gold medals with two world records in men's and women's air rifle events on the opening day shooting competitions in Busan on Wednesday.

"I am happy hat we grabbed seven out of eight gold medals on offer today, but what makes me happier is that my shooters had a Olympic-level performance today." said Xu.

"To tell the truth, they didn't make the most of their abilities today." added Xu, who won the first Olympic gold medal for China at the 1984 Olympic Games. "But their performances today were good enough to claim a gold in Olympics."

Cai Yanlin, who snatched the men's air rifle gold at 591 points in the qualification in the 48th World Championships early this year, scored 594 today, but what's more, Li Jie hit 597 and Zhang Fu 596. Li finally won the gold by 700.8 points.

"Other shooters such as Wang Yifu and Zhao Yinghui all did a wonderful job today, their scores are much higher than the one they won in the Olympic or the World Championships."

Wang and Zhao both claimed the gold medal in men's pistol and women's air rifle respectively.

"I am certain that they will win the gold before the Game, but the breaking of the world records is beyond my expectation." said Xu.

China has booked 16 berths to the Athens Olympics in 2004 and Chinese team is hoping to take four golds there.

"China has a upper hand in Asia, but we have to set our sight on the Olympics," said Xu, "Olympic gold is our ultimate goal."
