Japanese Communist Party to Send Envoy to Iraq

The Japanese Communist Party (JCP) will send its head of international affairs to Iraq this month, Kyodo News reported Thursday.

The Japanese Communist Party (JCP) will send its head of international affairs to Iraq this month, Kyodo News reported Thursday.

Yasuo Ogata will leave Japan on Saturday for a two-week trip toIraq, Jordan, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates to exchange viewson the situation in the Middle East with local high-ranking officials, JCP secretariat head Tadayoshi Ichida said.

According to Ichida, the Iraqi Embassy in Tokyo invited the party to make a visit around Oct. 15.

It received the invitation to hold talks with high-ranking Iraqi officials or monitor a national referendum on Oct. 15 that is to decide whether Iraqi President Saddam Hussein should stay inpower, Ichida said.
