An auction of Chinese paintings will be held in Hong Kong on Oct. 28, which will include a monumental work by Chinese master Zhang Daqian, according to Sotheby's Hong Kong office.

Zhang's Crimson Lotuses on Gold Screen, painted in splashed inkstyle on gold-flecked silk in 1975, has the highest auction estimate in the auction history of modern Chinese painting, Sotheby's said Thursday.

Zhang's special love for lotus flowers naturally becomes the most apparent subject matter through which one can sense his passionate, expressive and soul-revealing style, it said.

Another Chinese master Wu Guanzhong's Mulberry Grove, Morning Bell and Wisteria, will also be auctioned on Oct. 28.

Before the auction, these paintings will be exhibited in Singapore, Shanghai, Taipei and Hong Kong respectively.
