Chinese world record-holder Jiang Yonghua snatched the gold of the cycling women's 500m time trial here on Friday at the Busan Asian Games.

Jiang claimed the victory with a time of 35.304 seconds, 1.304 seconds slower than her own world record set at a World Cup race in Yunnan, China in August.

"I was a little tired and not in top shape," said Jiang. "But I did well enough to win."

"The weather condition is not so favorable," she added. "It is fuggy today, which made the court sticky."

Japanese Osuga Sayuri finished in 36.030 for the silver medal and the bronze went to Lee Jong-ae of South Korea in 37.498.

Jiang, who spent her 29th birthday early in September, retired in 1997 due to bad health condition before coming back in 1999.

"I want to take part in the Athens Olympic Games and win a goldmedal for China," Jiang said. "Chinese riders can match the world elite in this event."
