Chinese enterprises improved their performance steadily in the third quarter of this year, with the enterprise performance index rising 1.5 points above the previous quarter to 127.0 points.

Figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Tuesday showed that the enterprise performance index for the third quarter was 7.2 points higher than in the same period last year. It was the second consecutive quarter the index has risen since it reversed the January to March downward trend.

The NBS said that, in the first three quarters of this year, Chinese enterprises were well run in terms of production and management, and entrepreneurs' confidence has also increased. These factors formed the basis for the steady and rapid growth of the economy.

However, the NBS said Chinese enterprises are still facing problems such as continued lower prices and a decrease in orders which will have a negative impact on enterprise performance in the fourth quarter of this year and in the first half of next year.

The NBS predicts that the enterprise performance index will reach about 128.0 points in the fourth quarter of this year.
