DPRK Embassy Marks Anniversaries of Kim's Election, Party Founding

The Democratic People's Republic ofKorea's (DPRK) embassy in Beijing gave a banquet here Wednesday evening to mark the fifth anniversary of Kim Jong Il's election as general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) as well as the WPK's 57th founding anniversary.

Dai Bingguo, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and other Chinese government officials and army officers were invited to attend the banquet.

In addressing the banquet, the DPRK Ambassador Choe Jin Su saidthe traditional friendship between the two countries has undergonetests by history, and both parties will firmly pursue the policy of developing this friendly cooperation.

Expressing his belief that bilateral friendship will be promoted in the new century through joint effort by the two parties and the two peoples, he said the DPRK is glad to see the achievements China has made in its modern socialist construction.

Dai extended congratulations on the anniversary of Kim's election and of the WPK's founding. China and the DPRK are neighbors linked by mountains and rivers, and their traditional friendship not only benefits fundamental interests of two parties,two countries and two peoples, but is conducive to the peace, stability and development of the Korean Peninsula, northeast Asia and Asia at large.

The CPC and the Chinese people highly value the Sino-DPRK friendship, and adhere to the long-term policy of developing such friendship, he said, expressing his conviction that it will be furthered with the attention and care from CPC General Secretary Jiang Zemin and WPK General Secretary Kim.
