An Italian new plant for recycling used tires Wednesday was inaugurated in Pyongyang, capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, in a ceremony attended by leader of the country Kim Jong II, according to the company that built and is going to operate the plant.

This project was illustrated in Milan by company chairman CarloBaeli who said that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea "Is a country which is taking its first steps towards a profound economic transformation which will progressively bring it closer to a market economy."

"The opening of a new free market zone in Sinuiju, the second after the one in Rajin-Sonbong in the late 1990s, is a further demonstration of this nation's desire to attract foreign investment," Baeli added.

Baeli's company has been active in trade and cooperation with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for several years.

The new plant will recycle over 50,000 tons of automobile and truck tires a year.
