Today, Oct 10, is the World Mental Health Day. Related specialists pointed out that up to now, China's psychopaths have exceeded 16 million, with a morbidity of 13.47 percent. Compared with other provinces and municipalities, Beijing has a higher incidence of the disease. According to incomplete statistics, there are over 1 million patients with various types of mental disease and retardation but a paucity of special or professional psychiatrists in Beijing.

Incomplete statistics suggest that the city's total psychiatrists just top 600, each one providing mental health consultation to more than 20 thousand citizens. Even worse, the city sees no general hospital with a dept. of psychiatry and only a few psychological consulting agencies.

Professor Jiang Zuoning, a seasoned mental health worker of Anding Hospital, noted that in recent years mental patients have risen by big margin in Beijing, especially those of anxiety, depression and gerontic alloeosis. Statistics show that the morbidity of anxiety patients has climbed to 3.5 percent from less than 2 percent, epileptic dementia patients stand about 100,000, and out of every 100 "drunkards" 14 are severely alcohol addicts.

Then Professor Jiang explained that a life of quick tempo and the fierce competition environment are the main causes leading to the increase of the cases of mental disorder and block. And the aging society also precipitates the occurrence of gerontic alloeosis.
