CPPCC Chairman Meets South African Guests

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met here Friday with a delegation from the National Council of Provinces of South Africa headed by national council chairperson Naledi Pandor.

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met here Friday with a delegation from the National Council of Provinces of South Africa headed by national council chairperson Naledi Pandor.

Li extended his congratulations on the successful hosting of the World Summit on Sustainable Development by South Africa, saying that as two developing countries of great influence, China and South Africa have enjoyed great growth in their relations in the past five years of diplomatic ties.

The two countries have expanded cooperation in various fields, kept frequent top-level exchanges, and reached mutual understanding and trust on many major regional and international issues, said Li, expressing his appreciation of Pandor's efforts for friendly China-South Africa relations.

Li said the National Council of Provinces of South Africa, as an agency representing and ensuring the interests of all south African provinces and regions putting in place parliament legislation and governmental decision, has played an important role in coordinating the relations between the local and the central authorities.

The CPPCC is ready to explore exchanges and cooperation with the National Council of Provinces of South Africa, learning from each other and contributing to the sound relations between the twocountries and the two peoples, said Li.

Pandor expressed her interest in and appreciation of the CPPCC's role in China's economic and social development by participatingin and discussing state affairs, adding that South Africa, just like China, pays much attention to its economic development and social stability, as well as the improvement of people's lives.

Pandor voiced her belief that with cooperation and exchanges between the National Council of Provinces of South Africa and the CPPCC, the friendly cooperative ties between South Africa and China and between the two peoples will surely stride forward.

The delegation is in China at the invitiation of the CPPCC for a seven-day visit, which began Oct. 10.
