The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) will continue its support to manufacturers and exporters on adopting and using international standards, a spokesman said Saturday.

Spokesman for the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) said this in support of the World Standards Day 2002, which is celebrated on October 14 every year by members of major international standards organizations.

The theme of World Standards Day 2002 is "one standard, one test -- accepted everywhere" which promotes the adoption of commonstandards and testing methods all over the world to eliminate duplicative testing of goods and services.

The ITC spokesman said compliance with specified international and other reputable standards is deemed to satisfy the requirements of legislation such as the Toys and Children's Products Safety Ordinance and Electrical Products (Safety) Regulation.
