Reception Marks 40th Anniversary of China-Uganda Ties

A reception was held in Beijing Monday, marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uganda.

A reception was held in Beijing Monday, marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uganda.

Addressing the reception, Chen Haosu, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said despite great changes in the world, Sino-Ugandan friendship had withstood the test of time and produced fruitful results.

The two peoples showed respect, understanding and support for each other and the friendship would continue to develop in the newcentury, he said.

The Association would devote itself to promoting understanding,friendship and cooperation between China and Uganda as well as China and other African countries, he added.

Philip Idro, ambassador of Uganda to China, said over the past 40 years bilateral ties had developed rapidly with frequent high-level exchanges and close cooperation in the international arena.

Uganda appreciated the role that China had played in setting upa fair and stable world political and economic order in the 21st century, he said.

Uganda was ready to boost cooperation and communication with China in various fields to benefit the people of both countries, the ambassador said.
