Chinese Vice-premier Meets Ugandan Parliament Speaker

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen Monday exchanged views with Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, on bilateral relations and other issues ofcommon concern.

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen Monday exchanged views with Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, on bilateral relations and other issues ofcommon concern.

Qian said Uganda is one of the first African countries to have established diplomatic relations with China. Sino-Ugandan relations have witnessed steady growth in the four decades since the two countries forged diplomatic ties, he said, adding that thetwo countries have carried out fruitful cooperation in many fields.

Qian expressed his gratitude to Uganda for its long-term adherence to the one-China policy and for its support on human rights and other issues.

China is willing to further consolidate and develop such friendly cooperation, he added.

Ssekandi said that Uganda would continue its cooperation with China and firmly adhere to the one-China policy.

He also thanked China for its generous assistance to Uganda since it became independent.
