As learned from the 4th China international hi-tech fair, a batch of hi-tech industrial groups, with independent intellectual property and strong market competitiveness, are emerging rapidly in recent years as a most vital and potential sector in China.

In the past four years, the Chinese government, by utilizing state bonds and capital, has assisted over 1,000 enterprises in putting into effect hi-tech demonstration projects and having breakthroughs made in 18 key fields as communication, electronics, transportation, medicine, environmental protection, new materials, biotechnology, western development etc. These hi-tech enterprises are expected to reap an added value of 200 billion yuan this year, with a profit of 38 billion yuan.

Statistics suggest that during the past four years these demonstration projects with a governmental input of over 10 billion yuan have brought along a social investment of over 130 billion yuan in developing hi-tech industry.

Though last year saw a global economic slump and an overall slowdown of Western information industry, China's hi--tech industry maintained an annual growth rate of 19 percent, and a 25.4 percent export growth of hi-tech products, up 19 percentage points over the country's exports. In August this year, the export volume of hi-tech products hit a record high, an increase of 43.2 percent over the same period last year.
