The five, including two couples and a woman, were greeted by relatives on the tarmac at Tokyo's Haneda airport, according to Japan's Kyodo News.

They will stay at a Tokyo hotel from Tuesday to Wednesday to spend time with their families, and travel to their hometowns on Thursday, Kyodo said.

Their stays are expected to last up to around two weeks, after which the five will likely fly back to Pyongyang together on a Japanese government-chartered plane, it reported, adding that their children remain in DPRK.

The abductees were accompanied on the plane by nine Japanese government officials and two officials of DPRK's Red Cross Society,Kyodo said.
