International Seminar on Arms Control Held in Beijing

About 150 specialists and scholars from the United States, Italy, Britain, Russia, France, Germany, India and China gathered Tuesday to discuss issues concerning arms control and disarmament.

About 150 specialists and scholars from the United States, Italy, Britain, Russia, France, Germany, India and China gathered Tuesday to discuss issues concerning arms control and disarmament.

The Eighth ISODARCO-Beijing Seminar on Arms Control, jointly sponsored by the China Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics, the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, and the Italian International School of Disarmament and Research on Conflicts (ISODARCO), opened with a focus on nuclear weapons and world security, stability of international strategic security, and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The biennial seminar, with the themes of nuclear disarmament, nuclear test bans and nuclear non-proliferation, has drawn increasing attention from international academics, and has become affiliated to the well-known Pugwash Conference on Science and World Affairs.

According to experts, the seminar, stressing exchanges and cooperation between sociologists and scientists, has contributed to China's participation in international cooperation in arms control.
