Hurricane Alarm in Central, Eastern Cuba

The Cuban authorities Tuesday declared a state of hurricane alarm in its central and eastern provinces, in the face of a tropical depression advancing in the south Caribbean Sea.

The Cuban authorities Tuesday declared a state of hurricane alarm in its central and eastern provinces, in the face of a tropical depression advancing in the south Caribbean Sea.

A Civil Defense communique established the alert in 11 central and eastern provinces of the country, as the No. 14 tropical depression of the present cyclonic season (June-November) kept on moving slowly to the north and the northeast.

In the areas under the state of alert, hurricane shelters have been set up and 18,000 people deployed on prevention tasks.

The city of Havana, some western provinces, and the south special municipality of Juventud Island have returned to normalityafter being under a state of alert on Monday.

A few weeks ago, the western region of Cuba was hit by hurricanes Isidore and Lili, which touched down in almost the samepart of the island with only 11 days between them.
