Senior PLA Official Holds Talks with Vietnamese Counterpart

Yu Yongbo, director of the GeneralPolitical Department of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China held talks Wednesday in Beijing with a Vietnamese delegation led by Le Van Dung, director of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Armed Forces (VPAF).

Yu said exchanges on the political work of the two armies have been strengthened in recent years.

The political work of the Chinese army has withstood the test of time and history, since China began its policies of reform and opening up in 1978, he said.

Yu briefed the guests on the improvement of this work of the Chinese army, stressing President Jiang Zemin attaches importance to the political work of the Chinese army in the new era.

Le Van Dung said the experience of this work of the Chinese army is worth learning. He expressed his hopes to further exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese army in this aspect.

The two sides also exchanged views on other issues of common concern.
