Hong Kong's public security has remained in a good order in the first nine months this year despite an economic slowdown, a senior police officer said Wednesday.

Hong Kong Commissioner of Police Tsang Yam-pui said although the economy is not as good as has been expected in the present stage, the crime rate in Hong Kong remains lower compared with other cities around the world.

The number of the crime cases, especially the violent crime cases, was brought to a very low level in the first nine months, Tsang said, adding that the public security as a whole is in a good order.

Hong Kong police have made major efforts in cracking down on three kinds of crimes local residents mostly concern over, namely crimes with guns, crimes of drug trafficking and crimes related with gangs, Tsang said.

Tsang said that HK police have also joined hands with police inthe mainland to fight against crimes with guns and bombs, in which13 guns were seized and 26 suspected criminals were arrested in the first nine months this year.
