Chinese Vice-premier Meets African Guests
China hopes to strengthen cooperation in the area of traditional medicine with African countries, Vice-Premier Li Lanqing said on Friday in Beijing.

In a meeting with representatives attending the China-Africa Forum on Traditional Medicine, Li spoke highly of the traditional friendship and cooperation between the Chinese and African people.
In the new century, he said, China will continue to develop these ties according to the principles of sincere friendship, equality, unity, cooperation, common development and orientation towards the future.
Li stated that the Chinese government treasures traditional medicine and is working hard to modernize this sector.
Present at the meeting were the health ministers of Sierra Leone, Central Africa, Lesotho, Madagascar and
Togo
, vice-ministers of health of Ghana, Namibia, Mozambique,
Tanzania
Cameroon and
Egypt
, as well as officials of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Co-sponsored by China's State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the WHO, the China-Africa Forum represents China's follow-up action to the China-Africa Cooperation Forum held in 2000.
Representatives from 20 African nations and related regional organizations attended the forum.
