The Sixth Ningbo International Clothing Festival opened Friday in the coastal city of Ningbo, east China's Zhejiang Province.

More than 500 clothing manufacturers, dealers and designers from 14 countries are attending the festival, the second biggest in China after the garment festival in Beijing.

They have come from Italy, France, Germany, Australia, as well as Hong Kong.

Ningbo has been one of the country's major garment producing areas, where the country's first generation of Western-style tailors were established at the start of last century.

The city boasts about 2,600 clothing manufacturing and processing companies with a combined output of about 27 billion yuan (3.3 billion US dollars).

Some world-famous brands, like Pierre Cardin and Maxim, have workshops in the city.
