Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov on Friday dismissed reports on massive inflow into Russia of illegal Chinese immigrants.

The allegation of a "Chinese expansion" in Russia is groundless, the minister stressed at a press conference in Moscow.

Some 150,000 to 200,000 Chinese natives are now living in Russia compared with nearly 6 million living in the United States."There is no word about any expansion there," said the minister.

The government should improve migration legislation and fully fulfill those laws to avoid such talk in the future, he added.

As to defense cooperation with China, Ivanov said the cooperation was not aimed against any other country but at improving security in the region.

Military cooperation was an important section in bilateral cooperation, he noted.

Commenting on Russia-China border talks, Ivanov said the main part of the work had been concluded except negotiations on two small segments.

Moscow and Beijing will resolve this issue under a strategic partnership, he said.
