Argentine President Praises China's Role in World Trade

Argentine President Eduardo Duhalde reiterated his country's support to China for its entry last December as a full member to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Argentine President Eduardo Duhalde reiterated his country's support to China for its entry last December as a full member to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

At a meeting with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, Duhalde said "the presence of China in WTO will serve to bring equitable and clearness to a world trade unbalanced by subsidies and barriers distorting the developmental capacity of many countries."

Duhalde thanked China for its constant support towards Argentina in international organizations for the legitimate claim over the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands.

For his part, Tang said "since the establishment of Sino-Argentine diplomatic ties 30 years ago, remarkable development hasbeen made in cooperation in various fields between the two countries, witnessing deepened mutual trust, expanded economic exchange and trade, and closer cooperation in international affairs."

The foreign minister arrived in Argentina on Thursday at the invitation of his Argentine counterpart Carlos Ruckauf.

During Tang's visit the two sides issued a joint communique andsigned an agreement on education and scientific research.
