Seen in the above picture is Chinese President Jiang Zemin inscribed for a WWII American pilot who had died on his "Hump Flight" mission over China's southwest during the World War II.

In memory of the American pilot, President Jiang wrote, "This is an American pilot who had died a martyr's death in the battlefield of China during the resistance war against Japan. The Chinese people will remember forever this martyr's name James R. Fox Jr.".

Martyr James R. Fox, descending from US Texas, died at 24, leaving no remains on his "Hump Flight" mission March 11, 1943, according to WWII missing American fighters' list as reported. Cast to his memory is a bronze statue by concerned Chinese departments, which is going to be sent and erected back in his native place Houston.

As a major part to the grand exhibition "Memories from History" is the martyr's statue on display hailing the 30tth anniversary of the publishing of China-US communiques and President Jiang Zemin's upcoming visit to the US. Held by the State Council Information Office of China at the Woodrow Silson International Center for Scholars the exhibition encompasses three parts: "Hump Flight", "C. L. Chennault with His Men" and "Rescue of Horold B. Tollet with His Fleet" representing China-US cooperation during the World War II.

Zhao Qizheng as head of the State Council Central Information Office spoke at the news briefing this day that reviewing the history we pay our respects to all WWII American fighters who had heroically sacrificed their lives and their living dearest. With "Memories from History" the young generation will benefit from past history, remember it and further China-US relations.

Zhao said that the Chinese people will never forget all WWII American fighters and those of other nations who had helped China during the World War II. Terrorism had not just been found in "September 11" terror attacks. A review of history shows us many terror cases, such as attacks on Pearl Harbor, Auschwitz holocaust, Nanjing massacre and others we should never forget and see to it that no past human tragedies could be repeated.

Zhao holds that the contents as shown by the exhibition form a valuable wealth of history to the two peoples of China and the United States. History should never be forgotten and it must be let known to all young people. He pointed out that from history China may find various common grounds with the United States and join hands in advancing the common cause of the mankind. There have existed many common interests between China and the United States and well and better cooperative relations can be developed between China and the United States.

Wilson Center Chairman Lee H. Hamilton said that he was deeply impressed by the exhibition. He held that it is completely necessary for the two countries to remember the history of cooperation between the two countries in history at an important time as at present. China-US relations form a most important relationship among others across the world. The exhibition reminds people that sharing common interests and friendship have tied the two countries together.
