Chinese Vice-premier Meets European Official
China has been maintaining a good relationship with the Council of Europe (CE), Vice-Premier Qian Qichen said Monday afternoon.

China has been maintaining a good relationship with the Council of Europe (CE), Vice-Premier
Qian Qichen
said Monday afternoon.
In his meeting with CE Secretary-General Walter Schwimmer and his party in Zhongnanhai, the headquarters of the Chinese government in
Beijing
, Qian said that China started friendly exchanges with the CE in the 1970s, adding that China places great importance on the development of relations with European countries.
Qian expressed the wish that the CE will continue to play an active role in increasing mutual understanding and expanding common ground between Europe and China. He said that strengthening the cooperation between China and the CE is conducive to maintaining peace and stability in the world.
Schwimmer said that the CE and China share common views and have a broad basis of cooperation on a number of international issues. The CE has great interest in cooperating with China and is ready to expand such cooperation, he noted.
