China has always held that dialogue and negotiation are the most effective way to resolve the nuclear issue of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao made the remark in Beijing Tuesday at a regular press conference, saying that China hoped the countries concerned would resolve the issue peacefully.

Liu acknowledged that the framework agreement reached between the United States and the DPRK in 1994 had played an important role in keeping the Korean Peninsula nuclear free and maintaining peace and stability there.

The agreement, which was not easy to achieve, should be observed faithfully by all related parties.

China has always been dedicated to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and supported it being nuclear free, he said. China hoped the agreement would be observed, and the problems between the two sides could be properly settled through dialogue and negotiation.

Moreover, Liu noted the DPRK nuclear issue concerned not only the United States but China at well. Not long ago, US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs John Bolton visited China, and held discussions with his Chinese counterparts on the related issues.
