The price of antimony, a metallic chemical element, has rebounded in international markets in recent months due to the efforts of China, the world's largest producer and exporter of antimony.

China's output accounts for 80 percent of the world's total.

The price of one ton of antimony currently stands at between 3,250 and 3,350 US dollars, according to the world's largest antimony producer, Hunan Stannary Mining Bureau, which cited an October issue of the authoritative British journal "Metal Bulletin" as saying,

The metal's price peaked in 1994 at 6,000 US dollars per ton and then dropped all the way to 1,000 US dollars per ton in early 2001, less than half of the production cost.

Chinese regulators have stepped up the micro-management of antimony production and sales, cracking down on illegal mining and curtailing smuggling.

Statistics show that China's antimony output totaled 36,600 tons in the first seven months this year, down 26.6 percent from the same period last year.

China's annual production capacity is approximately 80,000 tons, while the Hunan Stannary Mining Bureau's is estimated at about 30,000 tons.
