The world's first true pinch-hitter, Sri Lankan Romesh Kaluwitharana would not be around for next weekend's Cathay Pacific/Standard Chartered Hong Kong Sixes, Hong Kong media reported Wednesday.

But the tournament would have its share of explosive big-hitting batsmen - with South African allrounder Lance Klusener leading the way, said South China Morning Post.

Former Sri Lankan Test and one-day star Kaluwitharana was the guest of honor at yesterday's draw at the Kowloon Cricket Club. But the wicketkeeper-batsman said he would be unavailable for the November 2-3 tournament as the Sri Lankan Cricket Board wanted to give its younger players some international experience.

Kaluwitharana came into the limelight during the controversial tour of Australia in 1995-96 with his pinch-hitting style that revolutionized one-day batting.

The draw saw Chinese Hong Kong fall into pool A alongside defending champions Pakistan, England and Australia. Pool B comprises South Africa, Sri Lanka, India and the United Arab Emirates.

The top two teams in each pool will enter the cross-over Cup semi-finals, while the bottom four compete for the Plate.
