Guangdong Reports Rising High-tech Exports

Guangdong Province, south China,exported 21.43 billion US dollars worth of high-tech products in the first three quarters of the year, up 40.5 percent from the same period last year.

Guangdong Province, south China,exported 21.43 billion US dollars worth of high-tech products in the first three quarters of the year, up 40.5 percent from the same period last year.

According to local customs statistics, exports of high-tech processed commodities took the lion's share of total to stand at 20.28 billion US dollars, up 38.9 percent.

Information technology commodities accounted for most of the high-tech export products and overseas financed businesses played a leading role in the drive, said a customs official.

From January to September, the province exported 18.7 billion US dollars worth of computers and related IT commodities, up 43.6 percent.

Industry experts attributed the fast rise to a range of factors, including favorable policies to encourage exports of high-tech commodities, introduction of efficient customs clearance measures, and the economic recovery in the United States and Europe.

In the meantime, as services have improved, the Pearl River Delta, a prosperous economic base in Guangdong, has grown into a prominent global manufacturing center, and companies from Taiwan, the Republic of Korea and Japan are shifting business to the region.

Guangdong has benefited the most from China's reform and open-up drive. It is one of the country's major export-oriented bases and a leading foreign trade player.
