Canadian skater Tremblay Francois-Louis took the men's 500 meters gold medal by clocking 42.169 seconds in the International Skating Union (ISU) World Cup in short track on Saturday.

The Canadian defeated Chinese Li Jiajun, the champion of the men's 500m in 1999 World Skating Championships in Bulgaria, to claim the title. Li finished second in 42.231 seconds.

The bronze medal went to Song Suk-woo of South Korea who clocked 42.271.

In women's 500 meters, world record holder Radanova Evgenia of Bulgaria showed how experience works in a competition and grabbed the gold in 44.718.

Evgenia launched a last-meter sprint to defeat Fu Tianyu of China, while Fu, who took the lead throughout the race, only collected the silver medal in 44.738.

Another Chinese skater Wang Meng, who claimed the bronze medal on Friday in women's 1500 meters, clocked 44.838 to take another bronze.

"I lost the race because I lacked the experience in the competition," said Wang Meng after the match. "I didn't do well atthe beginning and I couldn't surpass Evgenia during the race. She is an excellent skater."

"I think Fu lost the gold medal also because of the lack of experience. She could have won the race if she had done a little better in the last few meters." added Wang.
