US Diplomat Killed in Jordan's Capital

A U.S. diplomat was killed by gunmen in Amman, capital of Jordan, on Sunday in the worst attack against US target in the recent history of the kingdom.

A US diplomat was killed by gunmen in Amman on Monday in the worst attack against US target in the recenthistory of the kingdom.

The diplomat, identified as Laurence Folly who works in the Aid Office of the American mission in Amman, was shot in various parts of his body and killed on the spot in front of his house in WesternAmman, police said.

His wife informed police who rushed to the scene, but failed to arrest the assassins.

It is not immediately clear if the assassination is politically motivated, but it is the first attack against an American diplomat in the kingdom, which Washington takes as an ally in the Arab world.
