Chinese Premier Urges More Accurate Statistics Nationwide
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji urged on Monday that the statistics departments across China should speed up their reforms and improve their data's accuracy.

Zhu made the remarks when inspecting the Chinese National Bureau of Statistics, together with Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao.

Zhu said the management mechanism of such work and the statistical methods in China needed to be improved, adding the country must set up a statistical system in line with international practice.

Information technologies also needed to be further exploited to help improve statistical work, Zhu said, stressing that the Statistics Law must be strictly implemented to punish and prevent falsification of statistics.
